It has come to my attention that there has been some confusion concerning Deck Watch policy and the proper execution of a Deck Watch. Since the Deck Watch policy has not been circulated in some time, I thought it was a good chance to circulate it again with the addition of a beautifully done Deck Watch by
CDR Michel Rosenstrauch to serve as an example to us all.

SLCG Deck Watch Policy: Original 22/June/2014 (Revised 03/Dec/2016)
Deck watches must be stood at the crew persons assigned duty station unless specifically told to do it from an alternate location by the station CO. An acceptable Deck Watch shall be one hour or more in duration. Deck watches are not to replace regular boat or air patrols, but should be done in times of increased lag or sim restarts. Deck watches should be done no more than once per month by each member of a station.
The start of the deck watch must be announced on the groups open chat in the following format as shown in the example below.
DW=Deck Watch
EXAMPLE: If CPO Jane Doe (SLCG #236) were to stand a deck watch it would look something like this:
CPO Jane Doe: DW3236, has the deck watch at SLCG Station New Horizons at 20:30.”
Then every 15 minutes this example format shall be posted in open group chat….
EXAMPLE: (20:45) SLCG Station New Horizons all secure at this time.”
Then at the conclusion of the deck watch the below example format shall be used….
EXAMPLE: (21:30) CPO Jane Doe: DW3236, securing from SLCG Station New Horizons deck watch at this time.”
When completing your report, you will want to note what happened during the watch. You may cut and paste from GridTalkie chat, CG21, CG22, #16 Marine, Local Chat, SLCG Group Chat, or Aviation Group Chat, as needed to highlight activities that happened during your watch. SLCG personnel must file Deck Watch Reports under that specific station in the "Deck Watch" section under the Station of origin reports section on the forum.
The post below this one is an example of a very well done Deck Watch. We should all strive to have our reports look this good.
You may add additional information if you wish, such as;
a. People present at your station during the deck watch including SLCG personnel and civilians.
b. Aircraft that landed at airport if you're station has an airport attached.
c. Maydays reported during the watch.
d. Rescues performed during the watch.
e. Any other pertinent information you deem worthy of reporting.
